Personal Trainer’s exercise Habits

Posted by NPMFitness on June 26th, 2008

Some people don’t like exercise. If you are one of them then you are at the wrong web page!!

Training at the same time each day is a great habit to be in. However it is not always possible. I enjoy training early in the morning, but as I work as a Personal Fitness Trainer it is pretty much impossible because I always have to train clients at 6 am.But if you can get in the habit of training at the same time every day you will reap great benefits. Having a full days rest allows your body to fully recover and adapt to the previous days exercise.

With the busy lives we all lead, and I can assure you the one thing we all have in common is that we are all busy, sometimes it is hard to get into the gym. That is not a reason or excuse to not have to exercise.Conversely what I do is have a contingency plan.I am a Personal Trainer so I do have a home gym/ functional training facility that allows me to train when I need to.But I truly believe that anyone can have a few bits of versatile equipment at home to allow them to be able to fit in a workout at home.Things like a mat, kettlebell, resistance band and swiss ball are enough to get you started with a more than adequate home training setup.

Exercise is like everything else in life , if it is not fun, interesting, challenging and varying you will get bored. You need to have a goal and you need to have options. Whether it is dancing, martial arts, boxing, bush walking or whatever outdoor recreational activity that you can think of , you need to introduce and participate in a variety of different activities maybe even get a Personal Trainer to help you with relevant variety in the context of your workout .

Prepare for your day, the night before.I have said it before and I will say it again, if you fail to plan you plan to fail. Remember before you go to bed to pack your towel, water bottle, gym clothes, exercise diary, food diary, mp3 player and anything else you usually have with you when you exercise. When you wake up you don’t want to be looking for things.

Birds of the feather flock together. Choose your friends carefully. Surround yourself with people who enjoy exercising and eating a health diet. Do not associate with people who are negative or passively aggressive. As a Personal Trainer I can assure you i need to maintain a positive mindset and attitude all the time. And anything or anyone that compromises that gets the flick. I do not take prisoners. Fat Loss is WAR. :)

Remember how you feel after a good training session. After you have pushed new limits, had a shower and eaten some good nutritious food and are all refreshed. This is the feeling you want to associate with training. It will keep you coming back for more and you will enjoy the sensation of endorphins. Of all the things I have ever experienced as a Personal Trainer, the feeling of having had a really satisfying workout is the best of them all.

Do not be too hard on yourself!! There will be days when you are tired, sick exhausted and so on. These days are the important ones, because they are the days that actually give you the opportunity to define and forge the integrity of your character. If you really are having a down day and you are feeling under the weather just ease the intensity up a little…Do some cardio, some stretching eat the best nutritious food you can find. You could even have an extra session with your Personal Trainer. ;)

What are the things that are really important to you? You need to decide and articulate these thoughts, then write them down. Bring them from the ether of your mind into the hard reality of paper!! Pin them up and remind yourself, so that you do not lose sight of your goals, both long term and short term. I would say that a lot of what a Personal Trainer does is work with people to achieve their goals.

Do not use the word “try” when thinking or talking about achieving
anything!!You are not going to “try” to lose weight. You are going to
lose weight. Self talk is important. It programs us for success or
failure. Having goals is great. Lose fat. Gain muscle. Increased fitness.
Because of the technology and lifestyle that we in the west have
engineered for ourselves, exercise simply must become a part of life.
That is is all there is to it.. The human body comes with muscles for a
reason. Exercise is part of the bargain of life.It is not optional. It
is and should be made to be compulsory. But it should be fun as well.A Personal Trainer can help you have fun whilst exercising as can training with a friend or doing a boot camp etc.

Do not compare yourself to others. Compare yourself today to who you were
yesterday. This is why tracking and recording your workouts and
nutrition is important. Your own personal bests ,body fat percentages
and waste lines are the things you should be comparing. It is very
productive to be around individuals who you aspire to be like but do
not compare yourself to them. Simply model their behaviour in the field
that they are good at and you too can become as proficient as they are.

Water

Posted by NPMFitness on June 24th, 2008

I really enjoy drinking water. No seriously I do. Man has been drinking water since the beggining of time, yet we are constantly bugged by advertisments for man made concoctions of chemicals, flavours and drugs. (I consider caffeine and alcohol to be drugs).

Water is a natural appetite suppressant. Develop a good water drinking habit and you will also be well on our way to achieving and maintaining a lasting healthy weight. It has also been shown than when we are dehydrated it is harder for the body to metabolize stored fat. Water also assists the internal organs in cleansing the body of toxins.

A healthy adult should be aiming to drink 6-8 glasses of water per day.

If your goal is to lose weight a simple habit you can implement right away is to just drink water. No soft drinks,no juices and if your a guy and you want to get rid of your tummy?.no beer smile11 Water

Shopping - For Fat Loss

Posted by NPMFitness on June 23rd, 2008

Earlier today I needed to go to the supermarket to do some food shopping for the weekend.
Now before I even get into the supermarket I am nearly killed by a couple of young guys in their car, as they reversed out of a parking space without even looking behind to see who was behind them.

But , the weird thing is when i got into the supermarket and saw some of the food people had in their trolleys I realised that the supermarket was in fact a place where you could make yourself very ill if not dead with a lot of the products they sell.

Shopping can be the real make or break of us, especially if the goal is fat loss. You really need to have a list, and real ?get in and out? attitude when visiting your supermarket / grocery store.

I consider it an operation into enemy territory. Supermarkets are designed to get us to buy food and other things that we don?t need or want for that matter, which in turn serve to corrupt our efforts at attaining our lifestyle and health goals.

Bright wrappers, ?new? products, improved flavors and so fourth are all there to tempt you and bring down your best made plans at weight loss.

I have decided I wont be a victim of the marketing tactics these corporations employ. I now think of myself as Rambo, penetrating enemy lines, extracting my nutritional allies and dispatching my enemies.

Personal Training Fat Loss Bargain in Sydney

Posted by NPMFitness on June 23rd, 2008

I’ve been so busy Personal Training lately with work and my own training ,I have not been able to say how much i love my Schwinn Airdyne Exercise Bike.

Seems like a strange thing to say…I love my exercise bike.

Well i scoured Ebay for about 2 months before I found the actual bike I wanted.

The model is a Repco Airdyne. However it is actually manufactured for Schwinn under license from Repco.

This one is just like mine although I have a white one!!

Why do I love this exact model?

Well the Airdyne is an absolute legend of an exercise machine. And for interval training I honestly think there is no other piece of equipment that comes close to the airdyne in terms of the workout it gives you.

The fact that Schwinn/Repco have continued manufacturing these bikes tells us that it is a winner.

Over 25 years of continued manufacturing…

Anyway I got to go get my training done today!!

Do you do intervals ? And if so, how do you do them?

The other trainers at the course were really great and inspirational individuals as well !!

Kangaroos in the mist - Personal Training Sydney

Posted by NPMFitness on June 11th, 2008

Kangaroos are amazing creatures to see in their natural habitat. when I was on holidays I wanted to keep up with my training and exercise , as I work as a Personal Trainer in Sydney and need to keep in shape and promote fat loss.

One of my favourite ways of training is bush walking. While I was walking I came across a lot of Kangaroos.

Hard work pays off

Posted by NPMFitness on June 4th, 2008

Today Melanie received a promotion. She has been a member of a HR team with a leading financial institution, in the role of HR consultant and now has been accepted on a secondment as a unit manager.

I am constantly blown away by the efficiency and ability of Melanie to get the job done, whether it is her training her work or arranging a holiday, she always completes the task at hand .

Very inspiring for me and a lesson for anyone who wants to be successful that there is no compromise for hard work based on a solid foundation of good information and knowledge.

Another reason I believe Melanie is successful is her committment to learning. She reads and upgrades her skills and knowledge on a daily basis.

We will go out and celebrate in two weeks as we are on day 43 of our 60 day challenge, which incidently so far Melanie has lost 3kg of fat and gained 1 kg of muscle and I have dropped down from 89KG to 83KG .

We still have 2.5 weeks to go of our fat loss challenge and I hope to lose a further 2.5 to 3kg.

I guess sometimes as a Personal Fitness Trainer in Sydney I can get a little lax in my diet and exercise as I am around the gym and training most days anyway and take certain things for granted.

But for real results in an 60 day (8.5 week) period a truly focused committed attitude is called for.The goal setting process has to be very clear , and that is why I put together the 60 Day challenge program.

Anyway congratulations Melanie on your new position, you truly deserve it.

Do you know what time it is?

Posted by NPMFitness on June 4th, 2008

I am just wondering when it was the last time I ate. I try to keep my meals scheduled between 2.5 and 3 hours apart.

I have even started using a personal alarm so that i do not forget.

Eating every 2.5 - 3 hours keeps the metabolism ramped and stops the body becoming catabolic (when it starts burning muscle tissue for fuel).

Muscle helps us burn fat..so we want every last gram!!.

oh..there is my alarm..

Time to go eat.

Another 8 weeks - Fat Loss

Posted by NPMFitness on June 2nd, 2008

This week marks the start of another 8 week cycle for me. Again i am going to be focused on gaining usable and body fat loss.

Today’s workout was short , I had only 30 minutes to spare. That’s the life of a Personal Trainer

So I did intervals.

Eight 4 minute rounds with a ratio of 2:2.

2 minutes cross trainer then 2 minutes skipping . Multiply by 8 and that was it.

I feel good now, even though I lost about 90 minutes of work I had been doing on my PC just before I trained. Frustrating but not enough to make me miss training.

Anyway got to get back to the gym.

Eco Training - Bush Walking

Posted by NPMFitness on June 1st, 2008

Although I am a Personal Trainer who works inside a gym, I really love getting outdoors and participating in physical activities.
It is a great way to break up a busy schedule and get in touch with nature.
I had so much fun recently when i was on holidays for the Anzac long weekend at Bawley Point on the South Coast of NSW Australia.
Here is a picture of me at Pebbly Beach which is a 9KM walk from Kiola through an absolutely beautiful part of the world.

It is an amazing bush walk through Duras Mountain and Murramurang National park to get to Pebbly Beach, and although I only had time enough to walk to the top of Duras Mountain, I do plan to go all the way to Pebbly Beach next time.

Bush walking is a great way to get some really solid exercise on the weekend whilst simultaneously getting out of the city for a few hours. I drove there when this photo was taken.

Meatbeach

Australian Beaches really are second to none in the world.

Around the Shoalhaven Coast between Ulladulla and Batemans Bay there is an absolute cornucopia of natural bush and beach to explore, not to mention tons of recreational activities to get involved in.

Spending my time working in the city of Sydney as a Personal Trainer in a really busy gym , I tend to get quiet exhausted by weeks end and really look forward to getting away to a little piece of paradise with Melanie. If I could give one piece of advise to you, it would be take a break. Go for a drive, watch a movie, spend time with loved ones. These are the things that recharge our spirit so we can go on working and caring for ourselves and those we care about.
