Personal Trainer’s exercise Habits
Posted by NPMFitness on June 26th, 2008Some people don’t like exercise. If you are one of them then you are at the wrong web page!!
Training at the same time each day is a great habit to be in. However it is not always possible. I enjoy training early in the morning, but as I work as a Personal Fitness Trainer it is pretty much impossible because I always have to train clients at 6 am.But if you can get in the habit of training at the same time every day you will reap great benefits. Having a full days rest allows your body to fully recover and adapt to the previous days exercise. With the busy lives we all lead, and I can assure you the one thing we all have in common is that we are all busy, sometimes it is hard to get into the gym. That is not a reason or excuse to not have to exercise.Conversely what I do is have a contingency plan.I am a Personal Trainer so I do have a home gym/ functional training facility that allows me to train when I need to.But I truly believe that anyone can have a few bits of versatile equipment at home to allow them to be able to fit in a workout at home.Things like a mat, kettlebell, resistance band and swiss ball are enough to get you started with a more than adequate home training setup.
Exercise is like everything else in life , if it is not fun, interesting, challenging and varying you will get bored. You need to have a goal and you need to have options. Whether it is dancing, martial arts, boxing, bush walking or whatever outdoor recreational activity that you can think of , you need to introduce and participate in a variety of different activities maybe even get a Personal Trainer to help you with relevant variety in the context of your workout .
Prepare for your day, the night before.I have said it before and I will say it again, if you fail to plan you plan to fail. Remember before you go to bed to pack your towel, water bottle, gym clothes, exercise diary, food diary, mp3 player and anything else you usually have with you when you exercise. When you wake up you don’t want to be looking for things.
Birds of the feather flock together. Choose your friends carefully. Surround yourself with people who enjoy exercising and eating a health diet. Do not associate with people who are negative or passively aggressive. As a Personal Trainer I can assure you i need to maintain a positive mindset and attitude all the time. And anything or anyone that compromises that gets the flick. I do not take prisoners. Fat Loss is WAR.

Remember how you feel after a good training session. After you have pushed new limits, had a shower and eaten some good nutritious food and are all refreshed. This is the feeling you want to associate with training. It will keep you coming back for more and you will enjoy the sensation of endorphins. Of all the things I have ever experienced as a Personal Trainer, the feeling of having had a really satisfying workout is the best of them all.
Do not be too hard on yourself!! There will be days when you are tired, sick exhausted and so on. These days are the important ones, because they are the days that actually give you the opportunity to define and forge the integrity of your character. If you really are having a down day and you are feeling under the weather just ease the intensity up a little…Do some cardio, some stretching eat the best nutritious food you can find. You could even have an extra session with your Personal Trainer.

What are the things that are really important to you? You need to decide and articulate these thoughts, then write them down. Bring them from the ether of your mind into the hard reality of paper!! Pin them up and remind yourself, so that you do not lose sight of your goals, both long term and short term. I would say that a lot of what a Personal Trainer does is work with people to achieve their goals.
Do not use the word “try” when thinking or talking about achieving
anything!!You are not going to “try” to lose weight. You are going to
lose weight. Self talk is important. It programs us for success or
failure. Having goals is great. Lose fat. Gain muscle. Increased fitness.
Because of the technology and lifestyle that we in the west have
engineered for ourselves, exercise simply must become a part of life.
That is is all there is to it.. The human body comes with muscles for a
reason. Exercise is part of the bargain of life.It is not optional. It
is and should be made to be compulsory. But it should be fun as well.A Personal Trainer can help you have fun whilst exercising as can training with a friend or doing a boot camp etc.Do not compare yourself to others. Compare yourself today to who you were
yesterday. This is why tracking and recording your workouts and
nutrition is important. Your own personal bests ,body fat percentages
and waste lines are the things you should be comparing. It is very
productive to be around individuals who you aspire to be like but do
not compare yourself to them. Simply model their behaviour in the field
that they are good at and you too can become as proficient as they are.Nathan Maurice
