Personal Training Food Diary

Posted by NPMFitness on June 21st, 2008

When working as a Personal Trainer in Sydney I encourage my clients to record their eating habits in a food log.

Over the years I have found that;

Keeping a food log is imperative to
weight loss success.

Keeping a nutrition diary brings a consciousness of your food
intake and eating patterns.

A lot of the people I work with get surprised when they look back at weeks end and add up the different food types they have consumed.

Although our body types are some times pre destined, we can make influencing decisions, such as exercising regularly and eating healthily.

When you choose to record your nutritional habits in a food log you should try to record things such as

  • What you ate or drank: Be specific and include everything.
  • How much: Size, volume, weight, and number of items.
  • Time: Time of day you ate this food or drank this beverage.
  • Where: What location were you in when you ate.
  • Alone or with whom: Were you by yourself or with others.
  • Activity: List activities done while eating (watching TV, driving).
  • Mood: How were you feeling before, during and after eating?

Giving your food log a specific focus:

When you are keeping a food log it is important to have an idea of what you want to monitor.

Such as portions, actual nutritional value of your food and the times you eat.

Why not start recording your meals today?

It can’t hurt!!
